The movie tries very hard to give it a proper 1990s era Border movie theme, but it doesn't succeed in every single scene. These three actors are very talented, but this movie doesn't showcase their talent. Sunny Deol is an absolutely very good actor and performs his role properly, but Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh's performances are such that it seems like they are trying to recreate the characters from the old Border movie, but their attempts are largely unsuccessful. In some scenes, they behave quite childishly. When Sunny Deol is giving them orders during the parade, they jump around like little kids, I can't even describe it. Now, this is a patriotic movie, and we have high expectations of seeing the emotions, struggles, and love for their country from the Indian soldiers. This movie also has that, but with over-the-top scenes.
But the illogical science and over-the-top scenes – these two things were significantly affecting the actors' performances, which wasn't good. Guys, if there weren't so many action scenes or exaggerated dialogues, this movie could have been quite good. Because the actors tried their best to create the right vibe, and their performances were quite good. But the story, screenplay, and everything else lets this movie down. Honestly, so many years have passed, and we haven't seen a single decent patriotic movie. Whatever movies come out are spy thrillers, and even in those, they portray the Pakistani people and terrorists in a positive light. They show that the Muslims and terrorists in Pakistan aren't that bad, and their government isn't that bad either, which is quite wrong. But movies based on real incidents, like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, show the madness of these terrorists and how low they can stoop to fulfill their plans. The movies that come out related to the army and the border don't have the same storyline or emotional depth that the old Border movie had. Before this, I watched Arjun Rampal's Paltan movie, which also had actors like Harshvardhan, and that movie truly made you feel the struggle of the Indian soldiers and their love for their country. It depicted the war between India and China, where the Chinese try to encroach on some Indian territories, and in this process, they extend their barbed wire boundary quite rapidly, bringing it very close to the Indian border. The confrontation between the Indian and Chinese soldiers is truly excellent, and the dialogues are written in a way that inspires you from within, making you want to become an army officer. But to become an army officer, there's one thing that needs to be at the next level: love for your country and the willingness to take on the responsibility of protecting the nation on your shoulders.
Now, directors sometimes think about recreating the theme of the old Border movie and the theme of Indian soldiers, but they fail to do so properly, which isn't right. Because the perspective of today's audience towards watching such films has changed a lot. They want to see the same special storyline, the same performance, the same acting, and the same screenplay, but with a new camera and new filmmaking techniques, which is impossible. However, it can be done, but it will require a lot of time for story writing and for the actors' performances to suit the roles perfectly. Because such movies have the power to create a completely different history. For example, look at a movie like Baahubali. That movie started the Pan-India trend, which is still going on, and every South Indian actor is adopting this trend. But here, we are talking about movies made on Indian soldiers in Bollywood. It's being made in a very bad way, and significant improvements are necessary. But let's see, the trend of making bad movies might continue for a while.
